Atelier
Where the stream is treated as a manuscript.
The telemetry atelier is the working room behind every programme. It is not a product. It is the method: mark the names, bind identity, choose a session window, then — and only then — draw a cohort.
Four desks in the room
Visitors sometimes expect a wall of screens. They find paper, a shared dictionary, and a tutor who will cross out click until a verb with an object appears. App analytics here is editorial work with production consequences.
- Lexicon Objects first (trial, basket, episode), then verbs (started, paid, completed). Properties are allowed only if a decision will read them.
- Identity Anonymous, signed-in, household, and restored-install traffic are not mixed because a vendor made it easy. The rule is written in a memo the engineers can implement.
- Time Session windows follow human use of the app, not a platform default. Retention clocks start from a defined moment, not from “first seen.”
- Claim A chart that cannot be restated as a sentence with a limitation does not leave the atelier.
Bring a messy catalogue
The atelier is most useful when the SDK is already shipping events. If you are still choosing a vendor, start with reading rather than a seat. If you already drown in screen_view, the programmes list is the door.
Teams in the United Kingdom often arrive after a funding round that demanded “better analytics.” We will not pretend that a colour palette is the missing piece. Write to us with the export, or with a confession that you do not have one.
